Danville Soccer Association has recreational programs for players age 4-14, and travel opportunities for players through high school ages. Almost all players in the many high school programs in the area grew up in DSA, and bring their experience and skills to those JV and Varsity programs.

Danville High has teams for men and women, as does First Baptist High School. Schlarman and Hoopeston have successful squads. These schools often play games at the Danville Area Soccer Complex, and practice there as well.

Danville Area Community College Men's Soccer team practices and plays home games at the Complex.

Regional Champs 2001
Danville, under first-year coach Duke Oxendine, had a season that was above average, and a post-season run that was magic. After the season finale 2-2 muddy tie with Bloomington, Danville, the #10 seed, beat in turn the #6, the #3, and the #2 seeds in the region. All of these wins were on the road, with three trips to East Moline in a week's time. The Vikings beat Normal Community on their home field, then handled East Moline (former State Champs) 5-3 on the Moline home field. The most exciting game of the post-season was the Regional Championship, struggling with Normal West for 79 minutes of scoreless soccer before a breakaway goal beat the keeper and carried the day.

Every player had a critical role in each of these successes. The team aspects of soccer are never more apparent than in a one-goal game, with swarming defense and the constant offensive probing until the tiny crack appears.

When did Danville High School form their first Girl's soccer team? It was only 6 years ago. During the fall of 1996 I was hired to coach the first ever Girl's Soccer Team. Darlene Halloran assisted me.

Our season started in March of 1997. We had 32 players on our Junior Varsity and Varsity teams. Our schedule only consisted of 10 games. Unfortunately, we scored no goals and we ended our season 0-11. Despite our losing record, it was a wonderful experience and the beginning of a growing program.

As the seasons went by each year got better and better. During the 1998 season we scored our first goal as a team and won 2 games. Each year our team marks new records. We have improved in all areas every season. We score more goals, have more assists, more shutouts, and win more games. Another way of measuring our team's improvement each year is by comparing our playoff seed. In 1997 we were seeded at the very bottom and every year we have improved by 2 or 3 spots. Last year was our best ranking ever, and we almost made it past the first regional game. We ended up losing to Normal Community 2-1 in the final 15 seconds of the game.

Girl's Soccer in Danville has grown tremendously over the past six years. More girls are participating in DSA and playing on traveling teams. I have noticed more and more girls coming to DHS with a lot more soccer experience, and a lot more love for the game.

The 2002 Girl's Soccer Team will again try to post more records and meet our goals. We are determined to be seeded higher during playoffs, get past regionals, and have a record better than 500. The girl's team has made great strides in the past six years, I am anxious to see where we will be in another six years.
