League :: Recreation
Danville Soccer Association Philosophy
We believe that youth soccer is a worthwhile activity for all children, regardless of their athletic ability. Hence we encourage everyone in our service area that is eligible to play in one of our leagues. We view youth soccer as a healthy outdoor exercise, which brings children, parents, and extended families together for fun and competition. We encourage participation and active play in a setting supervised by parent and community adult volunteers. We believe, and have shown over the years, that our players and their families are eager for the opportunity to play and have fun, and build positive life skills along the way.

Danville Soccer Association has recreation leagues that play in the spring and fall each year. Children from 4-14 play on about 100 different teams and over 1500 children. There are girls' teams and mixed teams (girls may choose which they prefer).

Age brackets are two years wide, and are named in standard youth soccer fashion: under-6, under-8, under-10, under-12, under-14, under-11 girls, and under-14 girls. The age is that on August 31.

Coaches are all volunteers, usually parents of a child on the team. Referees are almost all volunteers, also typically soccer parents. Training clinics are available for coaches and referees at the beginning of each fall season.

Communities throughout the county have various age groups of teams that practice locally and play their games on Saturdays at the Danville Area Soccer Complex on Winter Avenue in Danville. These local teams are administered through a volunteer community representative of Danville soccer.

Teams play games in age-matched leagues is September, October, and April, and play a tournament in early May (no tournament, standings, or scores kept for under-6). All participants win a plaque and medal, with silver and gold to the teams in the championship game.

League fees buy jerseys, socks, game balls, field equipment and maintenance, and year-end trophies.

The Recreational league is run entirely with volunteers as coaches, referees, line judges, concession workers, field maintenance workers, and administration.
